Budapest's Required Information
Currency
The official currency of Hungary is the Hungarian Forint (HUF or Ft).
Although Hungary is a member of the European Union, it does not use the Euro as its official currency. ATMs are widely available throughout Budapest, and major credit and debit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants, shops, and tourist attractions. However, it is advisable to carry some cash, especially when visiting local markets, small businesses, or places outside the city center.
Power Outlet
In Hungary, the associated plug types are Type C and Type F.
- Type C: Two round pins.
- Type F: Two round pins with two earth clips on the side.
Hungary operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz frequency.
Medication
If you are taking prescription medication, we recommend bringing enough to last your entire trip.
Carry your medication in its original packaging along with a copy of your prescription or a doctor’s note, particularly if it contains controlled substances. Personal quantities of prescribed medication are generally permitted when entering Hungary, provided they are for your own use.
Visa and Entry
Nationals of non-Schengen countries may need to apply for a Schengen Visa before traveling to Hungary.
Citizens of many countries are permitted to enter Hungary visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period, depending on their nationality.
